Paloma - For String Quartet.
Paloma was originally devised as a single movement work titled Arbol de Uspib that was commissioned by the Apollo Chamber Players. Eventually, I added a second movement titled Lluvia de Oro, and the full work premiered during the EMERGE concert series presented in collaboration with the Julius Quartet.
The piece’s movements are dedications to two trees that are located in the cul-de-sac where I grew up, with the titles being the colloquial names of the species. The piece’s movements evoke the trees through mimesis, and elicit images of my memories. Uspib contains holiday music that I sang as a child in Mexico, per Apollo Chamber Players’ request.
